Sleeve Gastrectomy

Sleeve gastrectomy is a laparoscopic, minimally invasive surgery where a large portion of the stomach is removed. What’s left is a smaller, tube-shaped “sleeve” that holds much less food. This helps you feel full after eating smaller amounts, which supports weight loss over time. In addition, it affects hunger hormones, which may help reduce your appetite.

This procedure is done under general anesthesia and is usually a same-day surgery. It’s considered a permanent solution, and most patients lose a significant amount of weight in the first year. Like any surgery, there are risks, but it’s a well-established option with a strong track record of success.

Endoscopic Sleeve Gastroplasty (ESG)

Endoscopic Sleeve Gastroplasty is a newer, minimally invasive weight-loss procedure that reduces the size of your stomach without surgery. Using an endoscope—a flexible tube with a camera and tools—doctors go through your mouth to place sutures (stitches) inside the stomach, shaping it into a smaller, sleeve-like structure.

Because there are no external cuts, recovery is typically faster and easier than traditional surgery. ESG helps you feel full sooner and eat less, leading to weight loss. It’s a good option for people who want a less invasive approach than surgery but need more help than diet and exercise alone can provide.

Gastric Balloon

The gastric balloon is a non-surgical option for weight loss. The patient swallows a capsule that transforms into a soft silicone balloon. Once it’s in place, the balloon is filled with saline, which takes up space in your stomach so you feel full more quickly and eat less.

This procedure is done without any cuts or stitches and usually takes less than 30 minutes. Balloons are passed through the stool after 4 months. It’s a temporary option, often used to jumpstart weight loss and encourage healthier habits. It works best when combined with diet, exercise, and lifestyle support.

Transoral Outlet Reduction (TORe)

TORe is a minimally invasive procedure for people who have had gastric bypass surgery but have started to regain weight over time. After bypass surgery, the small opening between the stomach pouch and small intestine (called the outlet) can stretch, which may lead to reduced feelings of fullness and increased hunger. TORe uses an endoscope to go through the mouth and place stitches that tighten the outlet, helping restore fullness and support weight control.

Recovery is typically quick, and many patients return to normal activities within a few days. It’s a helpful option for people who have benefited from gastric bypass but need additional support to get back on track with their weight-loss journey.
